Althorp Private Hospital is certified by the Ministry of Health to provide Hospital and Dementia care services including Palliative care. We employ a Quality Coordinator to ensure policies and procedures meet NZ standards, regulations and DHB contractural obligations. Regular internal and external audits ensure we meet high standards. We pride ourselves on a focus to continual improvement.'We aim to be leading providers in person-centred integrated healthcare services'
The Welfare Guardian, or family / whanau, is actively encouraged to be part of the care planning and support team. We discuss medication and keep it to a minimum. We notify you of health events. We aim for quality of life decisions to support independence and dignity. We follow the Liverpool Care Pathway to work with you to enhance special "end of life" cares, when appropriate.
All client rooms are single with ensuite bathrooms to ensure maximum privacy. Maintaining our clients' privacy and their dignity is important to us.
We have a system in place to monitor staff and client safety. Staff are trained in Manual Handling (lifting) techniques and we provide a range of specialised lifting equipment. We have a smoke detector and fire sprinkler system that is monitored 24 hours a day and checked monthly by qualified personnel.
We are committed to the principles of restraint minimisation and a 'restraint free' environment through the implementation of alternatives to restraint. We work in partnership with families to determine what level of risk, for falls and harm, we should take and to discuss and implement care options.
For many clients meals can be the central focus of the day. Althorp Private Hospital aims to have an appetising menu. We use fresh ingredients to create interesting and nutritious meals. Our kitchen staff pride themselves on the quality of the meals and snacks they provide and we are able to provide special diets as required. All menus are reviewed by a Registered Dietician.
Access to phone, email and internet services is available in every room.
Fees in the Aged Residential Care sector tend to be set by government through the District Health Boards (DHB) or Ministry of Health and are reviewed at least annually. Many people are eligible for a subsidy through WINZ for care services. Various charges may apply.
Family and friends are very welcome at Althorp. We are a family-friendly hospital. We do, however, reserve the right to restrict visiting where it is in the interest of our clients to do so.
